ONLINE TRAUMA THERAPY ACROSS FLORIDA

Trauma Therapy in Florida

Difficult experiences can continue to shape how you feel, think, relate to others, and respond to the world long after the danger has passed. I help adults and teens ages 13 and older understand trauma responses, feel safer in the present, and move forward at a pace that respects their needs.

Does Any of This Feel Familiar?

Trauma can follow a single frightening event, repeated experiences, painful relationships, loss, neglect, or situations in which you felt trapped or powerless. Its effects can be emotional, physical, relational, or difficult to name.

Feeling on Guard

Scanning for danger, startling easily, feeling unable to relax, or staying prepared for something to go wrong.

Triggers or Intrusive Memories

Experiencing strong reactions, unwanted memories, nightmares, or moments when the past suddenly feels close again.

Avoidance or Emotional Numbness

Staying away from reminders, disconnecting from feelings, or using busyness and distraction to avoid what feels overwhelming.

Shame or Self-Blame

Questioning your reactions, feeling damaged or responsible, or judging yourself for what happened and how you coped.

Difficulty With Trust and Connection

Wanting closeness while also feeling guarded, expecting rejection, or repeating relationship patterns that are hard to understand.

Body and Sleep Changes

Living with tension, fatigue, restlessness, disrupted sleep, stomach discomfort, headaches, or other stress-related sensations.

Trauma Therapy That Respects Your Pace

You do not have to tell every detail of what happened before therapy can help. We begin by understanding what you are experiencing now, what helps you feel steady, and what you want to be different. The work can deepen gradually when you feel ready.

Build Safety and Stability

Develop ways to recognize activation, return to the present, and respond to difficult emotions and body sensations with more choice.

Understand the Survival Pattern

Make sense of reactions that may once have protected you, including avoidance, vigilance, shutdown, people-pleasing, or self-criticism.

Reconnect With Your Life

Strengthen trust in yourself, clarify boundaries and values, and create room for connection, meaning, and experiences beyond the trauma.

How I Work With Trauma

My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic exploration, and person-centered therapy. Depending on your needs, we may work with present-day triggers, beliefs, avoidance, emotional regulation, relationship patterns, or the meaning you have made of past experiences.

Some sessions may be practical and focused on coping or grounding. Others may involve deeper reflection. I will not pressure you to revisit memories before you feel prepared, and we will regularly check whether the pace and focus feel useful.

The Goal

The goal is not to erase the past or force forgiveness. It is to reduce the hold that past experiences have on the present, help you respond with greater flexibility, and support a stronger sense of safety, identity, and choice.

When Trauma Shows Up in the Body

Trauma responses can involve a racing heart, muscle tension, digestive discomfort, headaches, fatigue, sleep disruption, numbness, or feeling disconnected from your body. These symptoms can have many causes, so appropriate medical evaluation matters. Therapy can help you understand and respond to the connection between stress, memory, emotion, and physical experience without dismissing symptoms or replacing medical care.

Online Trauma Therapy for Adults and Teens

For Adults

Trauma in adulthood may affect relationships, work, boundaries, self-worth, physical well-being, and the ability to feel safe even when life appears stable. Therapy can help you understand these patterns and develop ways of living that are guided less by survival and more by your present needs and values.

For Teens Ages 13+

Teens may show trauma-related distress through irritability, withdrawal, anxiety, sleep changes, concentration problems, emotional shutdown, or strong reactions that seem difficult to explain. Parent or guardian involvement is discussed based on age, needs, and applicable privacy requirements.

What Getting Started Looks Like

1. Choose Your Starting Point

Schedule a full first session directly through Headway, or request a brief 15-minute consultation if you would like to speak first.

2. Understand What You Need

Your first session gives us time to discuss what is affecting you now, what helps you feel safe, and what you hope therapy will support.

3. Work at a Sustainable Pace

Most clients begin with weekly 50-minute sessions. We adjust the pace and focus over time based on your needs, readiness, and progress.

Common Questions About Trauma Therapy

What kinds of experiences can lead to trauma responses?

Trauma responses may follow abuse, accidents, violence, medical experiences, sudden loss, neglect, bullying, unstable relationships, discrimination, or prolonged periods of feeling unsafe or powerless. What matters is not whether an experience seems severe enough to someone else, but how it has affected you.

Will I have to describe everything that happened?

No. You remain in control of what you share. We can begin with current symptoms, patterns, and goals, and approach memories gradually only when doing so feels appropriate and potentially helpful.

Can trauma therapy be effective online?

Yes. Many people value being able to attend from a familiar private setting. We will also discuss whether telehealth is a good fit for your symptoms, privacy, support system, and current level of safety.

How long does trauma therapy take?

There is no single timeline. The length of therapy depends on your history, current stressors, goals, support, and the complexity of what you are carrying. We will review progress together rather than expecting you to follow a fixed schedule.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept Aetna, Florida Blue, and Cigna. Coverage varies by plan. Headway verifies your benefits and provides a cost estimate before your first session. Self-pay is also available.

Are sessions available in Spanish?

Yes. Online trauma therapy is available in English or Spanish for clients who are physically located in Florida during the session.
