Does Any of This Feel Familiar?
Depression does not look the same for everyone. It can affect mood, motivation, sleep, concentration, relationships, and the way you see yourself or your future.
Low Mood or Emotional Numbness
Feeling sad, empty, flat, or disconnected from emotions and experiences that once felt meaningful.
Loss of Interest or Motivation
Finding it hard to care, begin tasks, socialize, or engage in activities you used to enjoy.
Exhaustion and Changes in Sleep
Sleeping too much or too little, waking without feeling restored, or moving through the day with very little energy.
Harsh Self-Criticism
Feeling like a failure, replaying mistakes, comparing yourself to others, or believing that you are a burden.
Difficulty Concentrating
Struggling to focus, remember details, make decisions, or complete ordinary responsibilities.
Hopelessness or Withdrawal
Pulling away from people, expecting that nothing will improve, or feeling increasingly alone with what you are carrying.
Therapy That Meets You Where You Are
When depression makes everything feel effortful, advice such as “think positive” or “just get moving” can feel discouraging. Therapy gives us space to understand your experience without judgment and build change at a pace that is possible for you.
Understand What Is Maintaining It
Explore the experiences, losses, relationship patterns, beliefs, and daily conditions that may be contributing to depression.
Create Manageable Movement
Break change into realistic steps that support energy, structure, connection, and a growing sense of capability.
Build a Kinder Inner Relationship
Work with shame and self-criticism while developing a more balanced and compassionate way of responding to yourself.
How I Work With Depression
I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic exploration, and a person-centered approach. Depending on your needs, we may work with unhelpful thought patterns, avoidance, painful past experiences, values, routines, or relationship dynamics.
Some sessions focus on understanding and putting words to what you have been carrying. Others are more practical and structured. We decide together what feels useful, and we adjust the work as your needs change.
The Goal
The goal is not to force constant positivity. It is to help you feel less trapped, understand yourself more clearly, reconnect with important parts of life, and develop ways of responding that support lasting well-being.
When Depression Affects the Body
Depression can be accompanied by fatigue, sleep changes, appetite changes, physical slowing, headaches, tension, or unexplained discomfort. These symptoms can have many causes, so appropriate medical evaluation matters. Therapy can explore how mood, stress, and physical experience may be interacting without dismissing your symptoms or replacing medical care.
Online Depression Therapy for Adults and Teens
For Adults
Depression in adulthood may follow loss, relationship strain, chronic stress, isolation, major transitions, or years of putting your own needs aside. Therapy can help you make sense of what changed and begin rebuilding daily life with greater support and intention.
For Teens Ages 13+
For teens, depression may appear as irritability, isolation, changes in sleep, declining motivation, self-criticism, or losing interest in friends and activities. Parent or guardian involvement is discussed based on age, needs, and privacy requirements.
What Getting Started Looks Like
1. Choose Your Starting Point
Schedule a full first session directly through Headway, or request a free 15-minute consultation if you would like to speak briefly first.
2. Understand the Pattern
Your first session gives us time to understand what is happening, what you want to change, and what may be maintaining the depression.
3. Build on the Work
Most clients begin with weekly 50-minute sessions. We adjust the pace over time based on your needs and progress.
Common Questions About Depression Therapy
How do I know whether I am depressed or just going through a difficult period?
Low mood can be a natural response to stress or loss. Depression tends to last longer and affect several areas of life, such as interest, energy, sleep, concentration, self-worth, or hope. Therapy can help clarify what you are experiencing.
Can therapy help if I have felt this way for a long time?
Yes. Longstanding depression can feel deeply familiar, but that does not mean change is impossible. We can work gradually to understand the pattern, reduce what keeps it going, and strengthen sources of meaning and connection.
Can I attend therapy if I take medication?
Yes. Many clients use therapy alongside medication. I do not prescribe medication, but with your written permission I can coordinate with your prescriber when that would support your care.
What if I am having thoughts of suicide or harming myself?
Please seek immediate support if you may act on these thoughts or cannot stay safe. Call or text 988 in the United States, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. Routine outpatient therapy is not a substitute for emergency care.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept Aetna, Florida Blue, and Cigna. Coverage varies by plan. Headway verifies your benefits and provides a cost estimate before your first session. Self-pay is also available.
Are sessions available in Spanish?
Yes. Online depression therapy is available in English or Spanish for clients who are physically located in Florida during the session.
